Formula 500 is an open wheel class created to bridge the gap between go carts and formula cars. Originally called Formula 440 for its 440 cc
two-stroke engine displacement, the engine size was increased to 500 cc which pushed the speed of cars up beyond Formula Vee. Formula 500 is a popular class among young
racers in the U.S. because the strictly controlled rules and simple chassis design of these small race cars allows for low cost racing with the high speeds and cornering
capabilities of real race cars.
