Formula Renault is a development-level European open wheel racing series sponsored by Renault motor company. Formula Renault is one of the most competitive series in the world, and many Formula 1, IndyCar, Le Mans and GT professional drivers got where they are now by racing in Formula Renault.
Many of the top F1 teams also have Renault junior driver teams, so it receives a lot of attention. The series was founded in 1971, so it is one of the most popular racing classes of all time. There are currently 3 levels of cars, progressively more powerful with larger Renault engines, wider tires, and more aerodynamic
downforce: Formula Renault 1.6, Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5. The most prominent drivers have been Kimi Räikkönen (F1 world champ), Robert Kubica and Karun Chandhok in recent years. Formula Renault also has various series spin-offs in Asia and Latin America.
